About Tom Böhler

I have a Ph. D. in Human Ecology from Gothenburg University. I am also a Master of engineering in electric power technology. Since 2002 I have been working as teacher at the Department of Interdisciplinary studies/ Department of Global studies. In addition to being a teacher I am responsible for the undergraduate courses at the human ecology section at the department of Global studies.

Research
My research topics/interests include issues connected to sustainable development concerning ecological, economical, ethical as well as power-related aspects of society’s natural resource use. The aim of my earlier research has been to better understand in what way society´s and people´s view of nature can influence the acceptance of the renewable but highly visible wind power. Currently, my research topics/interests are connected to issues related to growth and degrowth of the consumption society.

Teaching and tutoring
I lecture at human ecology courses (undergraduate level) as well as on courses within the departments bachelor program. My lectures take up themes dealing with various interpretations of sustainable development, different ideas of sustainable cities, effects of society´s natural resource use, power and environmental ethics. I also supervise students that are writing their master- or bachelor-thesis.
