About Peter Johansson

  • Lecturer at the School of Global Studies
  • 2008 - PhD in Peace and Development Research

Areas of interest
My general research interest is on the political aspects of human rights, that is, how different actors perceive and use the ethical and legal norms and rules that the human rights system covers. A concretisation of this theme was my thesis work which focused on how the how the Swedish parliament used and related to the two discourses on indigenous and minority rights respectively, and the impact of those discourses on Swedish Sami policy. Another concretisation of the same theme was a research project on how states used the principles of state sovereignty and peoples’ right to self-determination in the case of Kosovo. Another research interest is rights-based policies and the implementation of human rights in practice.

Current research

In the project Discourse and Security Practice, we study how human rights and democratic values inform and influence the development of information security systems. The project includes two studies. The first study is based on the new Web-based e-health account HälsaFörMig (HealthForMe) developed by the Swedish eHealth Agency on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs. HälsaFörMig acts as a hub to identify discourses and value conflicts in the eHealth sector in Sweden. The second study focuses on attitudes to Whistleblowing and the Freedom to disclose information among white collar workers in the private and public sectors in Sweden. The project is part of the research program Security Culture and Information Technology (SECURIT) funded by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
