Om Signe Borch

Signe Østerskov Borch is a doctoral candidate in Social anthropology at the School of Global Studies. Signe is from Denmark, where she finished her BA and MA in social anthropology at the Institute of Anthropology at Copenhagen University.

Research area
Regional specialisation: The Balkans (particularly Kosovo, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Theoretical specialisation: Everyday life in violent and intractable conflict. Transformation and reconciliation processes in post-conflict societies. Gender and peacebuilding. Security-phenomenology. Nationalism and ethnicity. Mobility and social change.

Research project
The PhD project explores and analyses the relation between ethno-nationalistic identity, interethnic cooperation for reconciliation, and mobility and maneuvrability in a divided city. It looks at the relation between perceptions of space and belonging, morality and the protection of national interests , and navigation strategies in post-war Mitrovica, Kosovo, as these are identified and instrumentalised by local Serb NGO workers.
