Föreläsning

Guest lecture by Professor Islah Jad, Institute of Women´s
Studies, Birzeit University, Palestine.

Guest lecture by Professor Islah Jad, Institute of Women´s
Studies, Birzeit University, Palestine.

Islah Jad is one of the most prominent figures in gender studies and Palestine. She was one of the co-founders of the Institute of Women´s studies at Birzeit University in 1994. She has published extensively on gender, on the Palestinian women´s movement, political affairs and on civil society. She has been active at several universities throughout the world. It is an honour to be hosting her at the School of Global Studies.

Her lecture will cover the transformation of the Palestinian women´s movement from the 1930s to the post-Oslo period and through the Second Intifada and its relationship with Palestinian nationalism as well as Islamism. The lecture will also deal with the emerging of feminist NGOs and thus unpack the Palestinian women´s movement and its engagement in space and politics, challenging concepts of both gender roles and of Western-style feminist activism.

The number of seats is limited, why the principle of first come will be applied.
