Grit - Grassroots initiatives for an energy transition

Seminarium

To reach the climate targets, an energy transition that encompasses both substitution of fossil fuels and reduction of energy use through changes in the everyday practices is needed. To be successful, such a transition needs public support and must consider distributive aspects. Citizen-led initiatives have the potential to meet these criteria. Hence, there is a need for in depth knowledge about what factors make grassroots initiatives successful.

The Grit project consists of case studies of potentially successful grassroots initiatives in the fields of energy provision, daily transport, food and consumer goods in two cities, Gothenburg and Berlin. Both these cities have ambitious climate targets and strong social movements. The aim of the project is to provide knowledge on the factors that make grassroots initiatives successful, allowing them to contribute to a broader transition. This knowledge will be useful for social movements, municipalities, authorities and citizens in general.
