About Richard Georgi

 

Richard Georgi graduated in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin. Before starting his PhD at SGS, he worked, among others, as human rights observer in Mexico and researcher for the German Institute for Human Rights.

 

In his PhD project, Richard Georgi researches the politics of human rights activism in conflict transformation processes. He is thus interested in how human rights activists seek to politically shape social transformation in post-conflict transition. Empirically, his research project focuses on the discourse of human rights organizations throughout the peace process with the FARC in Colombia.

He has teaching experiences in the fields of: Political Theory and Sociology, International Relations, Gender Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and Global Governance.

Richard Georgi's overall research interests concern:
Human Rights, Political and Social Theories, Civil Society, Conflict Transformation, Postcolonial Theory, Feminist and Gender Research

In addition to his PhD research, Richard Georgi volunteers for the international human rights organization Peace Brigades International, and is member of the board of trustees of the Kenyan grassroots organization YHEPP
