Global perspectives on gender and sexuality

Global Gender Studies explore the complexities of current assumptions about gender, gender affiliation and sexuality. Focus is on global perspectives and the effects of increasing globalisation, migration and mobility for people around the globe.

The courses deal with gender related questions in relation to local and global power relations and processes of change. The courses aim at engaging a discussion of the possibilities of changing local and global power relations concerning gender, sexuality and identity.

Forms of teaching

The teaching in Global Gender Studies takes the form of lectures and seminars. In the seminars you will get the opportunity to deepen your understanding and let your views be confronted with the perspectives of other students. A fundamental part of the courses' design is continuous writing assignments, which give you an opportunity to develop your own thinking and writing. The courses are thought in English with both Swedish and international students.

After your studies

Global studies is especially suitable for those who aspire to a career in occupational fields dealing with global challenges to social, economic and ecological sustainability. The courses in global gender studies are aimed at those who want to specialize in such challenges related to gender issues. They are also suitable for those who want to add competence relating to gender and globalisation to their education in other fields.
