Latin American Studies

Latin American Studies is part of the regional studies course within the field Global Studies. With this specific regional focus we aim to give an overview of the history and contemporary realities and challenges in Latin America. The School of Global Studies offers two online courses. One of the courses gives a general introduction to Latin American history, culture, economics and international relations. The other course focus on the political and social realities of this continent, the political and social structures and movements that define its challenges.

Forms of teaching

The teaching in Latin American Studies as online courses takes the form of individual assignments mostly in the form of written essays or participation in online debates. These essays or participation in discussions must reflect the obligatory readings as well as the students’ analysis of these texts and their own views. All the assignments are given proper feedback from the teachers so the students have an opportunity to develop their analytical and writing skills. Films or filmed lectures are also part of the material the students receive during this course.

Latin American Studies is especially suitable for those who aspire to a career in international relations, development studies or any other field in which a deeper knowledge of a specific regional region can be an asset. These courses are extremely valuable as specialization in all kinds of discipline that have to do with global realities.
