Entry requirements, selection and application

Application procedures and entry requirement compliance (eligibility) tests are managed by the services of the University of Gothenburg on the basis of the entry criteria below.

Admission procedure is carried out by the Joint Admission Committee of the EMHRPP, composed by the conveners and administrative coordinator at Gothenburg on the basis of commonly pre-determined criteria, which are annexed to the Consortium Agreement and outlined below.

The ranking is divided in three parts:

  1. academic competence
  2. motivation letter 
  3. work experience and recommendation letters

Each part can be given a maximum of 100 points. The three parts are weighed to obtain a summarized value for each student. Academic competence is worth 40%, motivation letter is worth 20%, and work experience and recommendation letters are worth 40%.

Due consideration shall be given to equal opportunity measures capable of promoting the participation of students from disadvantaged groups.

Entry requirements and selection criteria 

To be eligible for the programme you must have the following:

  • A first degree equivalent to 180 credits or 180 ECTS from an internationally recognized university or college. 
  • A minimum of two year’s practitioner experience in the field of human rights. Practitioner experience may include regular employments, internships, and voluntary work.
  • A minimum English language qualification of English B/English 6 at upper secondary level or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent alternatives as stated in the call for applications each year by the University of Gothenburg.

Selection criteria:

You also need to provide the documents below as they are used in the ranking process carried out by the Joint Admission Committee of the EMHRPP: 

  • Official transcript of records in English.
  • Motivation letter in English, well structured and written in clear and concise language. Please use the assigned form available below. 

    Motivation Letter 
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Two letters of recommendation.

Information about scholarships

The programme offers about 15 scholarships per year. The scholarship covers the participation costs, a monthly allowance for living costs, and a contribution to travel and installation costs. Each grantee will receive EUR 1,000 each month for living costs during the 24-month duration of the programme. The scholarship also includes a contribution to travel and installation and any other type of costs to be paid in two instalments, as well as the Human Rights Policy and Practice participation costs including health insurance coverage for 24 months.
