Master's Programme in Human Rights Policy and Practice (Erasmus Mundus)

We are now coming to the end of the current project and will not be taking applications for 2018. We hope to launch a new programme in 2019/2020 so please keep an eye on our website for further updates.

The Master's programme in Human Rights Policy and Practice is an international programme organised by a consortium of three partner universities; Roehampton University, London, UK; University of Deusto, Bilbao/San Sebastian, Spain and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

The consortium also includes associated partners comprising the University of Balamand, Tripoli, Lebanon, the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, the University of Botswana, Gaborone, Botswana, and the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India. The associate partner universities will, among other things, act as locations for student dissertation research.

This Master's programme is mainly designed for students who want to take up careers in human rights work in civil society organisations, governments and the public sector or business.

The aim of the Master's programme

Prepare the students to: 

• work professionally and effectively with the protection, promotion and implementation of human rights in a changing global context;
• take up careers in human rights work in different sectors within civil society organisations, governments, the public sector and business;
• develop analytical skills and expertise in human rights perspectives, contexts, organisations, policy-making and practice;
• evaluate and apply these skills to different cases and environment;
• develop human rights-based policies, programmes and projects with professionalism.

About Erasmus Mundus

The Erasmus Mundus initiative of the EU is a cooperation and mobility programme with a focus to improve the quality of higher education, promote the EU 'as a centre of excellence in learning around the world' as well as promote intercultural understanding with Third Countries and contribute to the development of higher education in these countries. The studies will take place at the following locations:

Year 1: Semester 1 (Sweden) and Semester 2 (Spain).
Year 2: Semester 1 (UK) and semester 2 (Spain, Sweden or UK)

Programme length: 2 years Number of places: 35 Programme commences: Annually in August The Award: The final award is a multiple degree between all institutions with an aim for a joint degree from 2015 entry onwards.
